What size sisal twine for my IH baler 7200 or 9000

I am going to try sisal twine in my old IH 27 baler. I have been using plastic, but it misses more bales than I would like. Since they originally used sisal I am going to try some this spring. But, which size should I use? I'm leaning toward 7200, but would like others opinions.

Thanks,
Bobg

Twine generally comes in three sizes- 7200, 9000, or 16000 feet per ball. 7200 is the biggest in diameter, and the strongest- 16000 feet per ball is used in round balers, and is also called binder twine. Used to be used in grain binders. It is the thinnest/weakest, but with the extra wraps on round bales it works ok. Since the ball is the same size, the fewer feet per ball (7200) indicates a thicker, stronger twine. Color does not determine twine strength- oftentimes you find 7200 is green, but some market 9000 in green. You mention tying problems with an IH baler- they were never known to have good knotters, but with some brands, the company had a bill hook that was designed to work better with plastic, compared to the standard bill hook that worked fine with sisal. The bill hook designed to work with plastic also worked fine with sisal. One time switch, worked with both twines.

One slight correction. The 16000 is typically for round balers and comes in a standard ball with 2 balls to the bale. Traditional binder twine comes in 26000 foot bales with 6 balls to the bale. Binder twine is even smaller than round baler twine.

I have heard of some people using round baler twine in binders but you need to do something for a twine box because the balls won't fit in a binders twine box. Also need to loosen the tnesion some. Have tried some NOS rotobaler twine. Same size ball and twine but not consistant enough, gave problems in my binder at least.

Now to the original question at hand. I have never seen the 7200. Around here the 9000 is what is used in square balers. I wonder if the 7200 is for large square balers?

All the dealers in our area have always carried both 7200 and 9000. I didn't like the 9000 because too many strings broke easily, even tho the bales were under 60 lbs.

For normal operation 9000 will do what you want without any problems. I have used it for years and am happy with the results, but if you have already made up your mind give it a try....Good luck

twine comes in feet per roll(or 2 rolls?). 7200 ft or 9000 feet, both weigh the same. We normally run 7200 it's stronger than 9000. Neighbor used our round baler and left a couple balls of 9000 foot twine in it, and we had to double-wrap our bales till that 9000 ran out or else the strings would break and they fell apart when we hit them with the spear.

Wow, 9000 in a round baler???? Common to use 20,000 or 16,000 for round balers.

In the small square, I always have used the 9000. 7200 will cost you more, is stronger for a bale thrower perhaps.

Curious to know what kind of round baler you have Scot? Must cost you a forune to wrap round bales with 7200 ft twine. I use 16,000 foot and if I happen to run out I rob some 9000 ft outta the square baler and go with less wraps
