Have an old cole duplex planter. All I have is one large corn plate and a peanut plate. Can't find any info on this planter, have no idea as to the age, it fits my one point hitch. anybody out there know a model no., or where I can get these large cast iron plates? Also, I would pay to copy a manual if anybody has one...farmall130

Dewey, Recieved your E mail. I have an old Cole catolog with some pictures of several models. These all have wooden handles like old walking cultivator. Does the planter unit drive from the cast packing wheels with a drive shaft going up about a 45 degree angle to the seed hopper? There are several different gears that fit on the end of the drive shaft for different seed spacing. I have several of these units that were converted to pull behind a tool bar. I have a Iron Age planter with a Cole duplex seed hopper. Two plates , one drives left , one right. These plates are about 7 inches in diameter. I use one with a single plate planter almost daily , planting all kinds of vegetables. Some of these older units use a larger plate ,about 8 1/2 inches in diameter, I have alot of these older 8 1/2 inch plates , for a variety of seeds. Probably got a bushel basket full of the large plates. There are still alot of these Iron Age units with Cole hopper around here. It used to be a big vegetable region. Reply if I can be anymore help. Hello Robert, Maybe mine is not as old as I thought. It does have about 7" diameter plates, with about a 2 7/8" inside bore, with four notches for the driving gear. If you know what model this is, I would appreciate your help. More importantly, if you have any 7" vegetable plates you would like to sell, or know of someone who does, I would be very interested in buying them. Again, thanks very much for your help. Dewey

Thanks a bunch. I will check out the details you mentioned this week end and see exactly what I got inside. Mine does have one that drives left and one that drives right. Stuff is hard to find here, many people used IH planters, but the Cole is so much easier to use, and I think it does a better job, too. Thanks again...

If your Cole planter has the type of plates that fit flat in the bottom of the seed hopper, you might put a want ad in some local farm paper. If you have the plates that are mounted at an angle so that the seed is picked up and dropped out near the front top of the hopper, you might have more of a problem, but they were availiabe from the factory fairly recently. Bear in mind that the chain sprockets can be changed to change the speed the plates run at, thereby changing the seed spacing. Hope this helps.

Here"s a link to Cole"s site. From their menu, click on Products; then the planter model that resembles yours. You will get an option to download the manual: It takes a while, but it"s worth it.

Thanks for the info, unfortunately, my planter is much older than anything Cole has on their website. If anybody has any other info, I would appreciate it...
