Hello All, I am working on an FB drill and I need to know how to take off and replace the disks on the seed openers. The original disks are shot and I mangaged to get two off already using a socket wrench and PB Blaster (Blaster PB) . Unfortunatly when I tried to get the next set off, they won't come off. I tried to ask at my friendly local JD dealer, and the earliest drill the retired gentleman that works there has done is an 8300. I realize this thing is old, but its my summer project and there has to be someone out there that has fixed one of these things up. If it helps, its a 1951 model, so it has the "new" style boots. Thanks!

Christos

Under the center hex plug there should be an an allen hex screw (1/4"?). Turning it will unscrew the disk from the center casting. I think they might be left or right hand thread depending which side they're on. HTH.

I tried last night to take it off - its a square hole under the grease caps. I even tried pliers. No dice. Does anyone have a better way?

I think I'm rite on this. I have a B-A with double disk openers the same as the F-B and the manual shows what I wrote the last time. Yours might be a square drive under the center hex plug but I'm quite sure that's the set-up. They are in fact LH and RH thread depending on the side they're on so they don't unscrew when rotating. I might be wrong but if I am the manual is wrong too or you have a different style or MAKE on your drill. HTH.
