plow trip trouble

I have a 2-14 IHC trip plow on rubber with a moveble tail wheel. Here is my problem, if you set the plow half way down it works fine, if you set it all the way down the trip wheel slides on the ground and will not go down. The trip wheel has been taken off and cleaned. Everything looks good, everything on the plow is free. I was trying to plow bean ground. I called a guy and this it what he told me. This plow was made to plow hard ground and will not go in soft ground because there is not enought pressure to pull the plow into the ground, the spring is excellent. I searced the archives but could not find anybody with the same problem. Thanks for your help.

You are kinda throwing several issues together here, not sure we are understanding you right?

Are you saying if you try to plow deep, the plow will not trip at all & the wheel slides on the ground on the _down_ trip? Is it just that the plow will not go into the soil & so the trip wheel is skipping lightly on the soil rather than resetting itself for the next rope tug? Or am I misunderstanding totally? Or is something not tripping properly, bad trip mechinism?

Dad had drab green plows around here, but was real common to see a 100lb rock on top of them to help it penetrate, and tire chain on the left wheel to help it get back up. Dad would plow a _very_ shallow marker on each end of a large field, going through this was hard on the equipment & driver, but helped the plow to 'suck up' & raise as it rolled through this 2" deep fresh dirt and could catch that lip & suck down on the trip side.

If a plow does not enter the dirt & suck down, it is worn out lays (shares) 90% of the time, tip isn't pulling the bottoms down. Could also be fore/aft adjustment of the plow, or very, very dry (or compacted) clay soil as well.

If we aren't covering your problem, might want to try re-explaining it. Sometimes things look so simple, but take 1000 words to make us knotheads grasp it. :)

I have a 2-16 JD plow to pull behind my H. When it has trouble going in the ground, the share is worn out. Block it up and look underneith to see if the frog is dragging on the ground.

If your plow is in good shape and set up right, it will plow well in hard hay ground or sandy corn ground. You can pick up a manual for an old trailer plow on ebay, the old IH manuals have the set up proceedure in them. Took me two hours to set up 2-14's behind my Farmall H (By the book). If your land wheel is not getting traction, rather than buying a $80 traction implement tire, you can put a tire chain on it. Good Luck.

What type of tire does it have?? Some times you need a tractor type tire on them to do what you need. I.E. rear tractor type. Sort of hard to get one to go back up if it doesn't have tracktion
