I'm looking for a used disc. It will be used for cornstalks and general use, so probably 9 inch spacing. In your opinion, what make and model of disc is the best for leveling and not leaving ridges? I'm needing a 13 to 15 foot model. Looking to spend no more than $1000 or so. What model would you guys (or gals) be looking for? Thanks!

IH 37 or 370 is good but if you want a little heavier IH 470, or a lot heavier IH 48 or 480 althought most IH 48/480's and some IH 470's will be wider wing disks.

I agree with the others get yourself an IHC disk.
I have an older model JD model 230 21 ft it leaves ridges me or no one else has been able to adjust it to do a level job.

If you want your fields level when your done get a IH disc, I had several green ones and you dang near needed a motor grader to clean up after them. Those red ones sure stay together better in these Missouri rocks also.

Hi Doug,

I agree with the others and have always liked the IH discs too; they are just a darned tough outfit and do one heck of a good job.

Just "stumbled" across this 14' 370 last summer, pulled into the dealers lot and bought it on the spot for $900. All I had to do to it was grease it and replace the center ridge-buster shank.

No matter the brand tho, any disc can be set to provide you with a level result. It will help if it has furrow covering blades too.

I own an older Green one.

Look for an older Red one.

If short lines are popular in your area (dealer, support, availability), Keewanee and other Off-Red brands are also pretty good....

Drab Green can be pretty good too - their bearings just do not look big enough, but I hear good things from owners.

But, a Red one would be my first look. They got it right first when it came to disks.

Anyone that knows me will tell you I am color blind.... I only see GREEN and YELLOW..... MOST OF THE TIME.

Get yourself an IH disc. Several models to choose from... Deere makes a fairly good disc nowdays, but your price range is looking back a few years. IH made the good ones then. (I have a model #350 that sounds like what you want)
