I've got a wood New Idea manure spreader, ground driven, I'm wanting to sell. The problem is I don't know the bushell size, it's about 3 1/2' wide in the box, 6' to the outside of the tires. And about 14' in the box, 18' from the tip of the tounge to the end of the beater. Thanks!

I am looking in my old New Idea owners manual for a model 217 pto drive with a 14 foot box. Its 4 ft wide and the capacity is 114 cubic feet level full.....202 cubic feet heaped load.....which is considered 15" above flare boards. I don't think they use the bushel measurement for manure spreaders..... only cubic feet. Hope this helps.

Old measure was bushels. In the late seventies, most companies went to cubic feet. H&S for one still gives both ratings in their brochures.

2150.42 cu. in. makes a bushel. Take length X width X height ( in inches) & divide the result by 2150.42. If you want to be lazy, take lwh in feet & divide by 1.25. (takes ABOUT 1& 1/4 cu ft to make a bushel.

Gotta notation rite here in my TSC catalog page 49.
A wagon bed 3ft wide and 10ft long will hold 2 bushels for every inch of depth.
So just adjust accordingly and figger it out.

One bushel equals 1.2445 cubic feet.

3.5 X 14 X depth = Bushels 1.2445

But remember that you'll heap it up!

Joe: Most manure spreaders were calculated as level full. The heaped load was extra bushels.
