Thanks guys. I sorta suspected that it might be a reel-type mower since the grass was so nicely clipped. However, I've certainly never seen one quite that old!

It's a reel type lawn mower. Looks like a Jacobson

I'm thinking it might be a bluegrass "seed stripper". The reverse driven reel strips the seed and flips it into the bin. The kid with the broom is there to keep brushing it back away from the reel. When the bin is full, they will empty into a tightly woven sack for storage until needed.

Don't know for sure, but that's what it looks like to me.

Either that or its required at some county fairs if you want to walk yer horse through the main street parade..... ;-)

Looks like it could be an old horse drawn sod cutter of some sort. Just my .02
