Last load of round bales went out this morning, whew. Best hay year every, had no idea if they would sell or not, but they did.

Looks like at least a month here with the cloudy spring before any real dry hay to be cut. Going to try to cut and wrap some round bale silage tritcale this week maybe some alfalfa the weevil are in.

Most of this years fescue and orchard grass hay in TN & KY will only be 40-60% of the yield of last years first cutting. Hay may be short this fall? I am contracting some hay now because we are running more cattle than last year.

I think you are right, I looked at my orchardgrass today. Heading out at about 18", dark green but nothing there. Wheat looks the worst I have ever seen it, already seeing seed heads and it is less than knee high. Triticale and alfalfa look good, triticale is waist high or better and just beginning to head a little. Cutting it this week, weather permitting.

Why do you project 50% of last years 1st cutting? In western TN we seem to be in excellent shape for grass hay. Are you contracting for hay on the stump or for bales? delivered or in the barn?

Glad you got all your hay sold kyhayman. This year"s hay in East TN is looking pretty good so far. Hay Dr. I"ll let you know how first cutting goes, should be way more than last year, but it actually got some fertilize on it for a change since I took over. If the same bunch of morons were still on the farm then I would predict less yield.
