I have a chance to buy a 14T baler. The owner says the only problem he has with the baler is that it makes lopsided bales, one side a little longer than the other. Any ideas what might be the problem?

Thanks for any advice,
Dick

I baled with my grandfathers 14T for a few years. The only time we had lopsided bales was when the windrows were too light. That baler runs the best when there are 10 to 12 plunger cycles per bale.

These are pretty good balers. Does it look like he keeps it clean and greased and does it get used? Ours was a little lopsided at first but a good cleaning and regreasing helped and it got better the more time it spent in the field. Helped with misses also.

The resistor plates don't have anything to do with the bale shape, their purpose are to make a tighter bale, the problem is feeder fork postion or timing also the size of the windrow and moisture content of the crop will affect the bale shape which in turn can be corrected by feeder fork postion. Make sure the hay dogs are free and the hay dog springs are in working order.

There are things called restrictor plates or resistor plates on the inside of the bale chamber between the knotters and the plunger. The one on the loose side has come off or is worn off.

I bought a used 14t last year and after a new bearing and new chains, got it working pretty well.

With lopside bales, you should check the timing on the feeder fork ( fingers ) and then check that the bale tension cranks are set properly. It sounds to me like the bale tension is set less on the loose side of the bale.
