Maybe someone out there can help me. I just bought a farmhand 8bale accumulator and im trying to figure out where to mount the oil resevoir on my NH 278 baler. It has a pto pump that hooks up directly to the tractor and then the baler pto shaft hooks up to the pump. What my question is, is which way the rectangular shaped resevoir (spelling im sure is wrong) should be mounted. One end of the thing has a cap on it, and opposite that end is the hose that runs back to the pump. but the cap doesnt have a dip stick on it, so i was wondering if it is just mounted on its side and the tank is only filled with oil until it would run out where the cap is located. Im sure the way im trying to explain this doesnt make any sense, but any help would be appreciated. also what kind of oil should i use?.. something like Hy-tran, or 30wt like in the corn planter pump? Thanks for the help. by the way, does anyone have any other tips on setting up and running this thing? i didnt get a manual on it and really dont know where to start. Thanks

JBL, Ben is correct the cap must be on top. I have the same accumulator and though the reservoir was mounted on a pipe post attached to the tongue with U bolts, I didn't like that and got rid of the post and mounted (by bolting)directly it to the baler (NH 315) right above the tool box about 8 inches aft of the flywheel. You may have to change out some hoses. You don't need a dip stick as it won't lose any oil if the connections are good. If you didn't get a manual with this thing let me know as I've had several years experience with a Farmhand. Good luck....

The reservoir needs to be mounted with the cap on the top. Mount it on the front of the baler on either side of the bale chamber where it will fit. Go to a local implement dealer and talk to a mechanic or technician that has done one of these. Look around online a find the manuals you need. Both the accumulator and the baler are too complicated to get by without manuals. Just my .02
