Two side sickle mowers

We bought this place in E. Wa. last spring. Out in back I found two mowers. They have been laying there for a long time and are half covered with pine needles. One is a JD with an I.D. plate that shows model no. 8, S/N 42970. It is a pretty big mower with a 7' bar. It has a least one tag along wheel, as one is attached and another is laying near. The other mower has been repainted and I couldn't find any markings on it. It is a 5 to 6 foot bar, single belt driven with a wooden pitman arm. It is a 3 point with a driveline. I have Ford 8N's and an NAA. I assume the smaller mower would be best for my tractors. How can I find out more about these mowers? I would like to get one of them useable and dispose of the other. What's a good approach?

The #8 mower is a good mower but it is old, I don't know when they stopped making them. We had one in the early 50's. You can get parts and owners manuals by calling Deere at 1-800-522-7448. Good luck.

I think that JD mower is designed with a "kwik-tach" where two clamps on the mower lock onto a pair of dogs, one on either side of the frame that stabilizes the drawbar (which has to be removed to attach) just below the PTO housing. Dad had two of those, one for the 520, and another for the 530. Pretty specific to JD's, as I don't think you could easily adapt it to any other tractor.

Dad now uses a JD 3pt mounted mower on the 3020. I think that 3pt job would probably work reall nice on your 8N.

Just bought a FORD 501 3pt for $150 that needs just a bit of TLC to be a working unit...Keep that in mind when ya look at these again.

P.S. If you can buy BOTH fer one money, you may be able to get yer entire outlay back out of that JD mower from a died in the wool Green Man.
