Hi , I 've got two sickles and have the same problem with both , The drive heads for the sickle have been broken and brazed back together . The real problem is that they brazed the heads to the knife back also . SO... If anyone has a Oliver 415 or a Minneapolis-Moline J7A or J7 sitting in their grove or behind the hog barn I could sure use some good parts from them ! Just cutterbar part's - the rest of each machine is in fair to good shape . I really need the head for the Minny plus a bushing . I said in my last post on this subject last week that I think a John Deere sickle will work in the Oliver , I'll find out tomorrow . I can make the rest of the part's I need but getting the ones that fit is a lot easier ! I need the soles for the outer shoes and grassboards for both , and balance springs for the Minny and maybe a cutterbar too . Also if anyone has a guard/sickle repair anvil that would make changing ledger plates Sooo much easier than trying to balance the guard or clamp it in a vise . The generic #700 guards don't fit the cutterbar because the mounting hole of the guard is to close to the edge of the cutterbar by 1/16" I'm going to try the # 800 ford style then if that's a wash I'm getting ledgerplates . Sorry for me being long winded most of the time but I'm new to this and you folks give some good straight advice when you have as much info as possible . Thanks for any help with these part's ; For the Minny J7 or J7A ; drive head and bushing , balance springs ,outer shoe sole and possibly a cutterbar . For the Oliver 415 ; drive head , outer shoe sole and the cast hold downs for the head and or the repair anvil . I called Sickle service and they couldn't help for either mower . Thanks ...Randy

Those knife heads can have the brazing melted out, cleaded up and brazed back together corectly so you can change the sections, if knife back is also broken do not braze but arc weld that, I think that some of my cycles are McCormic, to much work to do it but I could go out and take cucle out of the Oliver and compair it what is in the John Deere, IHC, NI, and Moline I have here. My Moline is a semi mount. that knife droping if you can't get it figured out email me @ [email protected], and I will see if I can find my manual and give you some parts to look for and if you know the parts you need you should be able to go to AGCO and get all the parts you would ever need for both mowers, Leroy

Hi Leroy , Thanks for the thought about getting the heads re-brazed . I won't be needing that for the Oliver now but it's gonna be high on the options list with the minny . I was out all day Saturday working on the Oliver putting the Deere 37 sickle in it I had bought a week or so ago . Had to beat almost all the guards down . Put new keepers and wear plates in it . Still need to change all the ledger plates though , most are worn thin . Found out I need the rear head hold down . It's a cast part with what I'll call legs on the back side to compensate for the wear plate . A new steel one could be welded up or the worn area could be powder welded maybe or brazed and ground smooth ? Anyway , I think it's going to be ready for the first cutting even if I have to lift the the bar by hand because I still need a remote cylinder too . It's tough ( but enjoyable ) getting obsolete junk running when that's all that can be afforded :'] . By the way , I have two AGCO dealers and both said that many parts aren't available anymore for the Minny . I know that Schwartrock in Charles City has tried . On the Minny head , I need a bushing for it . parts is not available new . I found at the store that the bushing inthe head of a sickle for a swather was close in OD but the ID was 1/8" to small . I don't know if it would be possible to drill out a inner shell on a rubberized bushing ? Or make new side plates with smaller holes ? Just thinken out loud . Thanks for the answer and Take care ...Randy

Your Minni mower is a model I don't reconize, must be a newer model, I have a MO-107 and it was made in a 3 point hitch model as well, There was also a Minni 415 that is exactly the same as the oliver except paint color. You mention a rubber bushing for the drive on the minni, does it fit over a shaft and clamp fast on the outside for a rubber flex joint? Piviot? On JD combines the knife drive and sharkers are mounted with a rubber bushing, center hole looks way to small at 3/8" on new to fit over 5/8" shaft, lube with WD40 or somthing and just beat down on shaft and outside clamt will fit just right

Hi Leroy , Not much time to play on the computor anymore so sorry about a late answer . The bushing is composed of a metal inner sleeve and an outer shell with about a 1/8" to 3/16" of rubber bonded in between . Yeah it mounts on a bolt between two link plates that clamp to it's sides . Some New Holland and Int. haybines use the same setup , just much bigger . Can't just pound bolt in because of the steel inner sleeve . I thought of using a polyurethane shock mount or spring eye bushing but I'm not sure it could take 1200 cycles a minute . ....Randy

Nebraska Cowman answered a question I posted a few weeks back about an old IH sickle part, with pics and all.
I changed computers recently and have lost all my addresses. That"s why I came back here with my question about gaurds, below.
If you could send out a plea for him, I bet he could tell you about your Oliver mower parts.
I need to reach him also about the double gaurd question I presently have.

Post on the IH board says your Cowman is on the road right now. Last seen in Iowa. Don't know if he carries a computer with him so you may have to wait to talk to him. FYI.
