I have one of the last manfactured AC roto balers.I keep breaking the chain that drags the hay into the baler.Does anyone know where I can get a replacement?I bale most of my hay with a 605D Vemeer, but my livestock seems to eat these small bales much better. These machines take alot of playing with to work right, but when they do, you can"t beat them.I often cuss the AC products, but they are some of the most reliable that I have used.

I'd have to agree with Delberts solution went through the same problem with 1949. Turns out that the drive gears on the shaft at the top of the pickup were the culprit. The 2 gears sit on the shaft and need to be timed, the key way on 1 was rounded out so they were about 1/6 to 1/8 misaligned. Found this after setting the drag length and replacing the chains. Be carefull on the rivet links there are 2 thicknesses out there and the thin ones don't hold also dont forget there are left and right links. Later models had wooden guides screwed onto the pickup to help with chain sway. Good idea to do if your using it, but not if your showing it off as an original.
Good Luck!

Most likely you can find the links you need at the local farm supply store. Then what you would have to do is rivet the links to the slates on the chain and put new links in between would take a few minutes but would be cheaper than buying hole new chain. Then on the other hand if you could find another baler that has a good chain that would work also. If there is an a c dealer around you close they might have the chain most likely the price would be OUCHIE. Just something to think about. Also you maybe running chain to loose it needs about 2 slates running on the ground when platform is down.

I'll never forget when I was a kid and the neightbor had one. In rank hay, those little round bals could get heavy but I helped get up about 10,000 bales a year. When you were kids you did really dumb stupid things too. Me and one other 16 yeasr old would haul with a big corn wagon and a little AC B pulling the wagon.

We hauled around the foot of the mountains in NE Alabama and there was a lot of limestone rocks and snakes galore. I've seen many a bale left in the field because there was part of a snake hanging out and the bad kind. We killed some big diamondback rattlers. I learned how to kick the bale and roll it before I picked it up real quick. All sorts of vermin would lay up under those little round bales.

Later another fellow ran the farm named Guthrie. That baler jerked his right arm out of it's socket and the guy walked a mile to our house to carry him to the hospital. If it hadn't been for the shock, he would have bled to death the doctor said. It seems they were pretty dangerous but aren't they all?

cluth, release, drive, ding a ling a ling, clutch release drive, ding a ling a ling...that the one Jim? I remember them well especially the little bell ring when the bale had got to its max size. I'm sorry I can't help with your parts but I couldn't resist, I didn't like handling them and Dad used to make us "roll them out" and throw them in the manger..they didn't always roll out nice...but it brings back a lot of memories, good luck Jim...Mike in Exeter Ontario
