Just had a buddy call, he found a 3 pt sprayer (pto pump) He believes it is a 250 gallon tank.
At 8 lbs a gallon, thats 2000 lbs on my 3 pt.
Will my tractor handle this SAFELY?

Tractor is a NH3930 4wd. Weight according to my book is right about 5700 lbs. Plus I have the rear tires loaded.

If not, what is a good size tank for my size tractor.

Rick

I have a 110 gal 3pt that works great on a Ford 960 & 1720. 960 is about maxed out & front is light, 1720 is more stable 'cause of the loader. Used it on the 7700 a few times, but too much tractor for small tank, wish I had your setup for that tractor.

Weight in rear tires is of no concern, front end weight & 3pt lift is what you need to know. Likely you can't fill it full for that tractor, but should work to 150 gal give or take.

I agree, if it's too much don't fill it all the way. I have my John deere 3020 setup with a 300 gal tank on the 3pt that works very well. Basicly when buying mine new it was the same price/frame as the 200 gal unit. Where I have been concerned is with water sloshing to the downhill side of the tank and making things tippy. Now I'm setup on the narrow side of things, to be able to go down 30" rows. I added 600 lbs to the already loaded rear axle this year. Upfront I'm round about a 1000 lbs in suitcase weight. I had to make a bracket and tie into the framerails before I was happy with that much weight.

If it is too much full, just put in 100-150 gallons.

Exactly! we had an Amazone fertilizer spreader that was designed to hold up to 2 tons but I only ever put a ton in it. The beauty of that was I knew if I cut open a couple of half tons bags of fertilizer it would easily hold them without fear of any spillage, either whilst it was being filled or during transport down to the field.

Your tractor may be a little light up front. That is a lot of weight for the threee point. What we did was put a piece of 4 X 4 oak across the drawbar and set the arms down on the block to get some of the weight off the three point. Worked great.

We used to run a mounted Hardi MX1000 (1000 litres or 220 imperial gallon if you like ) on an MF 168 and it was good as long as you put a weight or two on the front end. Then we ran it on Renault 781 ( 78 hp 2 wheel drive ) and it was fine. Bear in mind too that a UK gallon is 8 pints! I used to go up hill and down dale all day with that. Not only that, it is not unusual to see mounted fertilizer spreaders which carry a ton or more, Ive used those too.

250 gallons on a 3pt!!! Wow!!!

Biggest 3pt sprayer I have seen is a model 25 JD with a 100 gallon tank. Thats plenty behind a 7610 Ford. Just getting ready to sell it in fact (I really really despise anything on the 3 pt) and am changing to a larger trailer type.

what would think if you saw a Ford 7610 with a mounted four furrow reversible plough on the back? quite a common sight here.

That thing would take every weight I own on all put on one tractor to keep the front end down.

Hi Roy,

Heck yeah, this is the size of plow I always used; nowadays, the big boys around here are lifting these things in 6 and 7 bottom onland versions.

All hangin' and spinnin' on that 3-point. Those hitches are a lot tougher and lift way more than a guy would think.

I have never seen a plow with so much underbeam clearance!I notice it has no skimmers but it has trashboards instead is it for plowing corn stubble? It would be a good plow after potatoes I bet. I have seen a fully mounted 6 furrow, now that was a lump!

Hi Guy,

Boy! I guess I'll never understand how you dryland boys operate. How can ya even farm without using the 3-point?

Heck, any 3-point hitch oughta be able to lift the tractor it is mounted on, don't ya think?

Dunno,

Allan
