Disc Mower leaks and repairs

I have 2 old disc mowers, both bought at auction. The first is a Fella 240. Appears to be exactly like a Vicon. It mowed great last year, so I decided to drain the oil out of the bar and the gear box and put in new 80/90 oil. The blade was upright. After about an hour the 1st (bottom) blade hub began to drip oil. It had never leaked before. I should have left well enough alone. Maybe the seal dried out during the winter. Questions: Can I mow with it leaking, if I check the oil every hour or so. Or, will a leaking hub spin out the oil really fast?? Can I replace the seal from the top without tearing it apart completely? Any tricks to do this?
My second old disc mower is a NH 462. Looks to be in good shape except the gear box is in bad shape. Appears to have been run dry. Is that tough and expensive to repair? I am a decent mechanic, if I take my time and think it through. Can I fix this gear box with normal mechanics tools? The NH disc mower also has a hub seeping oil. Far outside hub. Can this be fixed from the top? New seal? Is this model same as an old Kuhn as I have heard? Last if I only fix one of these 2 mowers which one would you fix and why? Many thanks for your insights.

On the Fella mower and probably the NH, there are no seals. The bearing act as the seals. I have replaced the top bearing on my Fella mower from the outside before. It is not ease. Pull the disk and the hub that the disk bolts to and look at the bearing seals, if it looks good you can probably run with it. It the bearing seal is bad the bearing is probably not far behind. These spendles have 2 bearings on them, one inside that runs in the oil bath and the outside one that is a sealed bearing.
