Hi , First off , thanks to all who answered my last post . This ones about my M-M J7A sickle . I took the sickle out today and found the bar had a groove worn into it about 3/16" back where the sickle had worn through the wear plates and into the bar . Is this fixable ? Can I put new wear plates in and make sure the hold-downs are tight against the sickle the way they are supposed to be ? By the way I haven't tried the JD sickle yet in my 415 Oliver . But I did look at it better and all the measurements are the same except for that tail on the head . It doesn't look like it's needed because it hangs down below the bar when it's in transport position anyway . Question for Caseyc - Does your sickle slide to the ground when you transport with the bar verticle ? Mine does and I can't figure out how to stop it except to wire it up . Well , With the late sunsets now I don't have much time to be on this thing so Thanks to all who reply . Going to a horse show in Des Moines this weekend so I might not get back on till next week sometime . ....Randy

On pitmen arm head should have arm sticking out at 90 degs and a stop back near inside cutter bar shoe back a few inches from return stroke of knife bar now when put cutter bar up for transport the knife bar sides down and sets on stop.If your mower don"t have just get a piece of hard wood and place between knife section and rock guard a piece of oak about an 1-1/4" dia. and 5 or 6" long will hold knife bar from slide down and does no damage to anything I use wood on N.I. trailer pull type only and still useing same piece of wood for about 4 yrs

paul and leroy are both right. there is a bracket that keeps the sickle from falling out in transport position. the problem is i've been searching two years for that bracket and have yet to find one or even make something work, so with that said i bought a visegrip and i clamp that to a section when i raise the bar to transport. wire usually chips or breaks a section whe you hit a bump.

If it drops down you do not have all the parts or it is not put together correctly. can you post a picture and I am sure we can figure out the problem. Not sure what the MM mower is.

Some sickles have a little arm & a little L bracket deal around the ball joint arms that hook each other to prevent this. My Ford sickle used to, dad "fixed" it with a set of ball clamps that do not have this arm, so I have the same problem now.
