I'm building a 3pt tractor mounted sprayer with 20'overall booms each fold extension would be 7' 1" sq tube. I'm tryin' to find some break-away hinge system that doesn't break the bank. Anyone have a source for these? The local spray parts house wants $200 a set, there gotta be something a little less expensive, somewhere. Suggestions very welcome. bjr23

Also consider looking at one of those ATV sprayer units. I have one and just love it. If you can get a pic of the hinge assy. there it may give you some ideas for folding swing arms. If overhead folding is needed something more substantial will be needed.

It is basically a pivot pin with a spring rtn. On the square tubing it has some larger channel iron that slides over the square tubing. A hole is drilled thru the entire assy. and pin (bolt) is inserted. A spring is then used to rtn to outward position but if to much pressure arm folds under.

Here are links to other pics of what I am trying to describe. Scroll down to the area named sprayers.

Hope this helps.

I probably need something I could see maybe small sketch or picture of how the angles would be positioned. It sounds like what I'm needing. The factory made system have cast aluminum bracket that would be difficult to duplicate. I have some old Cambell Mfg. brackets that are cast steel that I've tried to clean up, but would like to be able to come up with a shop fabricated design made out of simple pieces. Thanks bjr23

Go to some dealer lots and look at sprayers they have for sale. Boom that small does not need real heavy material or springs to give you the protection you need. I'll bet you can build a copy for ten bucks or less. Flat plate, 1/8 or 3/16 thick with something heavier than a screen door spring should handle the pressure.

Two angle irons sandwitched to gether with a bolt and spring to hold them to gether spring pressure will determin the amount of breakaway .One angle iron on the boom and one angle on the main frame.Angle iron length around 6to8 inches.
