JD 435 Baler/Monitor Question

I have been trying to adjust the bale shape senders on my 435 round baler and am not having much luck. The way I understand it, following the manual, when adjusting the senders the monitor indicators should be near the top (top dot) when adjusting correctly. However, when I do it according to the manual, the indicators are much lower. It would make sense to me that the indictors would be near the bottom when the baler is empty, but that is not the way I understand the manual. Anyone know which way is correct and/or a better way to adjust them without unhooking the top spring?

Also, first time to the field for this baler after much rebuilding and first time for me to operate a round baler. Neighbor wanted me to bale some wheat hay for him and when I got there, the wheat was extremely dry...to the point of shattering. Baler seemed to work properly...but when I ejected the bale, the net wrap was pushed in about 8 inches from each side and the outer edges of the bale were destroyed (hay was shattering). I figured the problem with the wrap was caused by the shattering hay...seemed to feed nice and straight on the rollers etc. Is this a correct conclusion, or may there be some other problem?

had 530 and 535...i always had baler running then set each side high and even..always made good bales...have nice day may god bless

Tim,I have a JD 467 and to adjust sensors(very touchy to do)I bought this tool from Dealer that holds roller at a certain spot for adjusting.It's been sevral yrs. since I had a 435 but I think op. manual had something about using small board to hold roller away from belt.On baling DRY wheat you'll probably need to bale with dew on it(early morning or night).A little moisture will probably help net wrap as any build up of loose hay in bottom of gate area affects netwrap.First time I tried to bale wheat I cut it with no heads showing(high protien).Let it lay 3 days,windrow rattled,straw would break.I baled a bale,hay was too wet.Ended up waiting to long, hay got too dry to bale in afternoon,what a learning experience.Jim
