My dad just bought a john deere #3 hay tedder/fluffer ( not sure what actual name is). I was wondering if anyone knows how it works and where I can find information on it.

I have the earlier model, a #2, that I have had several years. Wayne is right on it, they work best when the dew is just getting off. You can get a manual from JD publications. Do a search on this site for new JD manuals and there is a phone number that should show up.

Travel speed may work better 7-8 mph or faster, some guys drive as fast as the field will allow. Each type of hay may be a little different, work well in long stemmed timothy and such.

We have a model #3 "swath fluffer". You will find it will work well if you do not try to fluff the hay if it is to wet, wate until the top of the crop has no due on it. It will also work best following a mower and a conditioner rather a haybine, the fluffer will pick up the tops of the plants and stand them up. The fluffer is very gentle with the hay. They were disigned to follow the mower in the same direction. Ajust the hight of the teeth so they don't touch the ground, they should just pick up the hay.
Hope this helps Wayne.
