Here's one for the experts, I keep seeing on Ebay and also on this site's photo ads a guy about an hour away from me is trying to sell 3 point backhoe attachments, that he says will work great on most tractors. I don't have a lot of money and can't afford to blow any, but if this thing would work it would really be handy to have. I have a 1942 farmall H, that I don't use much anymore, could this be a posibility for me.

You would likely need a loader on that tractor for balance/ anchor.

42 H did not come with a 3pt. Most backhoes use a rather irregular hard-point for a top link, NOT a floating one. This is very fussy about it's placement. You will need to make 100% sure your 3pt conversion will fit to the backhoe.

A 3pt backhoe _can_ be hard on the transfer case of tractors - a lot of the digging stress is placed there. An H should be strong enough, but how big of a hoe are we talking?

You likely will need a pto pump to run it, know what oil flow & pressure you have & see what is needed.

After that, they do work fine for a hobby, makes holes a lot easier than a shovel. :) Not as good as pro machine of course.

You might make it work but you would never be happy with it. A backhoe needs a whole bunch of weight in front of it, your H doesn't have the weight, and most likely the Hs hydraulics won't be sufficient either.

I'm no expert but a old friend I had, had one on his ford tractor it worked well but wasn't up for day in day out jobs. It was a good machine for around the farm on most jobs.
