Rooster Comb Plow

I have an old Oliver trailer plow, I believe it what's called a rooster comb (it has the notched arm that raises it).

It raises fine. And when I pull the rope it drops, but the comb stays down and raises it right back up again. It doesn't look like anything is missing or broken. If I lift the arm up by hand it catches and stays up until I pull the rope again; but it seems like I shouldn't have to get off the tractor and latch it by hand every time I drop the plow.

Is there a trick to this thing, or might something be missing that I'm overlooking?

Tom, you have a very good plow there. I have two oliver plows myself. You have to give the rope a jerk and then release. If you hold the rope to long the plow will raise back up. If you are pulling the rope correctly, you might need to lubricate the the lift mechanism. Otherwise you will need to disassemble the lift mechanism and check for stuck or broken parts.

I think I'm starting to get the technique. Lubricating it helped; it seems to want a very light touch when dropping it to make the comb stay up.
