4K got me a brand new deckover bumper hitch trailer with twin 10k jacks and 2 7k axles. It has 5 foot ramps, a 3 ft beavertail, and a 19 ft wood deck. The structural channel iron crossmembers are on 16 inch centers on 2 - 8 inch I beams. Way more than what you need but this'll give you a price comparison. The local dealership has a used unit for 1200 bucks which has 2 3500 lb axles and a 16 ft deck. That's more like what yoiu want.

Unless you really need something special, I'd go the new or barely used route for a very little bit more money than the cost of raw materials. From what I've been told, homemade trailers never trail perfectly straight unless the builder is a professional, either.

Good luck either way you go...

I agree with Glenn. However Northern Tool has plans like what I think you are looking for and a lot of the parts.

I will reinforce the idea of buying a trailer already made. If most of the materials are going to be purchased new forget about building your own unless you need some special features for your purpose. Buying a ready made unit gets you new brakes (YES YOU NEED THEM) good tie downs etc.

If you value your time at all I think you can buy a new manufactured one for less than you can build one. That's my conclusion. Glenn F.

As well as NorthernTool.com having a catalog with plans and trailer parts you can find plans on Ebay and may even find plans on a search for "flatbed trailer plans" When you tire it be sure to put trailer tires on that are built for trailers. Also do a search on trailer parts on the net. I haul 51 and 52 8Ns with loaders, individually on a drop axle, underslung, tilt trailer that does great and loads/unloads like a dream. Drives just as well.
