JD 435 Bale Wrap

I have a 1991 model 435 round baler...and the operators manual I purchased through Deere shows a completely different net wrap compartment than the one that is actually on the baler...the one in the operators manual folds down from the top and the one on my baler lifts up to open. Anyone familiar with these. I am in the process of rebuilding this bale an am not sure all the pieces that are supposed to be in there are there...appears to be 4 bolt holes that appear to have once had a bolt in them and now don't...and it seems odd that the net wrap roll would just sit in an L-shapped cradle. I don't know of another 435/535 around here that I could go look at and the JD parts site seems hard to follow. If I go to my dealer, would they be able to get a supplement or something that would cover this particular net wrap compartment?

Tim, Not covered in your 435 manual is the servicing of the upper belt roller. My dealer serviceman showed me this. At least once a season remove the bearings and clean out accumulated plastic material that gets pulled in during normal operation. Sometimes it looks like a large plastic washer. It is formed by heat melting the plastic wrap. The bearings are sealed but you can relube them at this time with a needle. It helps to have a hoist you can pull the baler under to lift the roller and be prepared to spend a half day. You will find that it is time well spent and it will extend the life of those bearings which are pretty dear at the Deere dealer. Ed

Thank you for the tip...is this the only area that this is a problem...I had some accumulation of wrap around the ends of the starter roll. I also found a place to order those bearings that Deere only sells with the flanges as one piece at $105 a piece...just in case I will need them. How many bearings do you lube with a needle...and are you talking about a needle attachment to your grease gun...or are you talking a syringe with a heavy gauge needle?

Tim,the first JD netwrap systems folded down,next series door raised up and you put roll in cradle.I owned one of each and liked raise up door better.It's possible that you may have received wrong manual for yr. model baler.Net wrap is alot faster than twine but it sure is aggravating to kick one out with little or no netwrap on it and have no idea till it hits ground.Tx Jim

Thanks for the info...after a lengthy discussion with the Deere parts man today...we came to the conclusion that this baler did not roll of the assembly line with net wrap, but was added later and thus got the newer version. The parts man did not think that I could get info on just this newer net wrap without ordering another complete manual. I have on order the service CD, so I will wait and see what that contains.

One quick question, the loading instructions are on the inside of the compartment...but do I feed it initially by pulling the wrap together in a bunch in the center, or feed it through flat...the older unit shows pulling it together in a bunch in the center...

Tim,yes you bunch netwrap together to start it through rubber rollers.Be sure to apply talc powder ocassionally to rolls.Jim

Thanks for the help. The baler has been sitting for a while and pretty dirty/dusty on the rollers etc...I will blow it out/clean it up and apply some powder before first use.

New Holland balers store the net roll in front and the operator can see at a glance if the net is being applied.
