3 Bottom JD Plow

I have a 3 bottom JD plow. I can't find any numbers on it anywhere. It has a lever on the front that appears to move the front left or right as you move the lever. I picked it up and originally took one of the bottoms off and it works Ok without a tail wheel. It was broken and a piece missing. Wheel is steel with yellow color inside. Number one, what is the purpose of the wheel? Every flat bottom I have ever used in my life seems to have been minus the tail wheel. I guess they get ripped off.

Does anyone out there know of a good source for old such wheels? I would like to get it back to original condition. JD no longer can supply the wheel. I carried it to a big local dealer and that was the word. I think this is a 3X16 if I remember correctly.

There is a stamping on the wheel D843A. The bearing side of the wheel is 18 inches. If there are any stampings on the plow, I have yet to find them.

Looks like we've narrowed it down to the F125.... If you need/want an owners manual for that plow, I've got one. Let me know if you do. We can hook up via email.

Do you have the hub? That steel wheel can be replaced whith one for a rubber tire and the plow will work better as the steel like to hold onto mud if the ground is slightly wet. I think a standard 4 lug 4x12 trailer wheel will fit with just a standard 4:80x12" trailer tire, boat trailer size.

Look anything like this one? in reply to Jerry (AL), 04-02-2005 15:03:08
third party image

This is a #416A, from the mid-50's until early 60's. If it looks simular, but a lot heavier, it MIGHT be a #810.

The lever is the same but the plow I have has a strait heavy channel all the full length. The wheel looks very similar but this wheel looks to be more rounded almost like a round steel tire split in half. The mounting hardware for the tail wheel looks the same as well as the way it hooks on the last bottom.

I have a digital camera. I will try to get a picture of it and then get someone to help me with how to post it here tomorrow.

You did a great job with that plow. Mine doesn't have coulters either. Mine is a trip though also. The one I have appears to be a heavier built plow.

If you have a box beam that goes the length of the frame, it"s an F125.

IF that's it, I have a spare tail wheel, and the brackets to mount it. The tailwheel takes a little "load" off of the landslides, making the plow pull a bit easier. Also, if that's it, I have the original manual for this plow, and I can copy it for you, so you can set up the tailwheel as it should be.
