Just never ceases to amaze me what you can find out on this site.Recently purchased a 1209 and the guy that sold it to me also gave me this "hootus" you put on your drawbar. I didn't think much of it. Just looked like something that didn't stick below the tractor (like a pin) that would snag on hay (from the last round) when you are cutting. Since the hole in the front of the 1209 floats, I thought it was just something made to work in unison with that and not snag hay. So..... I'm getting everything conditioned for start of the hayin season. Finished the baler, the rakes, and now I am into the 1209. Redid what was needed. Today I will fix the tin on the output chute and that should be it. So..... I sit down this morning and pickup on this fabulous information from your chit chat about this "hootus" and how it is designed to get the tongue and driveshaft parallel in a turn which, I'm assuming reduces the shaft vibration.....one of my pet peeves/concerns. I also received an original JD factory manual with this mower/conditioner, and I recall seeing a pic of the hookup to the tractor but didn't pay that much attention to the details. Today I will revisit that section and better understand what's going on. So thanks Jim and Tim for your helpful chit chat. Mark
