I will be moving to Iowa in the next two weeks so I will not be on ytmag as regular. I will post when I get to Iowa.
I have taken a job as a design engineer with Vermeer. I will be designing the next round baler.
I guess this means that I will need a new handle. I'll figure that out when I get there.
If anybody is in the Pella area. I would like to get up with you, once I get there.
James

I kept my same handle. Moved from So. Minnesota to W. Central Florida in November. Kept the handle because that's where my roots and family are, that's where my tractors are stored. Just seemed to make sense. Loren-MN
now Largo, FL

Since your an engineer I will pick on you a bit. When your designing that next round baler think about the farmer. We are the ones who have to take the thing apart and fix it when it eventually breaks. The easier you make it to take apart now, the less we will swear at you later! :-)

Well I have been working in my dads dealership since I could hand wrenches so I have a concern for being able to service the machine.

I once heard that the only time you need to lock your car doors in Iowa is in August. If you don't lock them then you'll find the backseat full of zuccini when you get back.

What is the deal with the zuccini?

Some how zuccini is a well kept secret outside the midwest. If the Peace Corp ever learned about it, they could feed all the poor people of the world for an investment of $1.79 in zuccini seed. By the way locking your car won't help, people will just pile them on your hood. Now you'd think that wouldn't be a problem, that you could just back out from under them, but then your parking spot is piled full and you can't get back in it the next day.

Good luck in your new job James!

In my younger days, our VP of engineering was originally from Vermeer. He changed our CAD system over to Unigraphics. Is Vermeer still using UG?

James in NC,
Likely you will be working on translating the New 600 Series "M" baler technology into the other size balers. There are some new products on the Vermeer board. The Rebel balers are on the board to incorporate some of new M technology into this baler. The project I want to the front is the 40"x40" mini-baler for 30-40 HP compact tractors.

Lets see- might want to make them a little smaller, to be more handle-able- maybe 16" or 18" by 36", or so- and square them up so they would stack better.... wait a minute... the more things change, the more they stay the same....

Good luck on your move! Welcome to mid America - now you just have to get used to the speed limits in Iowa - 65 on the interstate (there is talk of a raise to 70).
