I have an IH 35 rake. I stopped using 80-90 gear oil and instead use high temperature grease akd "corn head" grease. The lubrication is the same and I no longer have the leaks I did previously.

I am rebuilding a #15 right now. Allan is right 80 or 90 wt is what is reccommended. I put all new bearings and seals in mine. Napa had all of the parts in stock. I just need to paint and assemble mine and wait for the hay to grow.

JB,

Think ya got it backwards, don't ya? The NH is more than likely a knock off of the IH.

80/90 in the gear box; darned nice old rakes.

Hi Allan,

Get my rub about rattle cannin your latest work of art with some blue or green to give it some character.....LMAO? Didn't hear from you so I hope I didn't PYO. She is looking good and I know you've put a lot of work in it.

I use Lubriplate #105 in gearboxes with leaking seals that I'm too lazy to change out; not just on rakes but all my old iron in need; especially rotary cutter boxes that seem to always have the bottom seal worn out.

Later,

Mark
