Sickle bar mower Ford 3000

Please advise, I have a Ford 3000 with a MF 7"foot sickle mower. When trying to cut grass the 3-point hydrolic will raise the sickle 2- 3 feet above the ground. When I try to position the impliment to the ground the sickle falls quickly to the ground. I do not have problems with other impliments on positioning. Please help or all I can cut is 5 foot grass!

The pitman may have been replaced with one that is too short. This would cause the implement to raise as you mow.

The short lever beside the 3 point lift lever may be in draft control (plowing mode) flip it to position control (normal mode).

If I understand what u are saying, I think it is working correctly.....

A sickle mower really isn't made to bet set at 6" above or 8" above the ground - they lift to clear clogs or back up or to do corners - but when they are working they are meant to basically slide on the ground. the inner and outer shoes can be adjusted up or down or the cutterbar tilted forward or backward some to change the height f stubble.

i have heard of people putting liek a little wheel out on the end to hold the end at a certina height for a clipping job or something - but not very common
