Beltman, This model started in 1920-38 4b until 1949 583 is the beam number on a model 4,4a,4b,4c,4d 2btm Deere plow.Shares should be # 217, moldboards should be NGP 214 most popular, yes they are still available in the aftermarket and from Deere, Pictures of the plow we can pinpoint which model it is. Email if you need help. Earl In Illinois

583 is the number for one beam it is likely the other is 623, these beams were used on the 4 series plows starting in 1929. The most common one is the 4B but all are similar, the 4B ws built 1935-1949. A plow is like an electric drill or router, the bit(or in the case of the plow, the bottom)is what is chosen by the user(or dealer) on a plow there are lots of bottoms available for different purposes and looking for parts for the bottom(point, shin, moldboard, or landside) by using the plow model is very likely to get you the wrong part.

Hi Bob, Yes there were many moldboards available for different areas and soil types .I have only found 1 share number and 1 moldboard number available now in the aftermarket to fit those plows. Have you a source for different ones? The 4b was a popular plow here in Illinois. Green Magazine did a good job on the history of Deere plows.I wished I had more info. Earl

Hi Earl, Yes parts for plow bottoms are a real headache, I presonally have a pretty good source since my brother bought an old dealer a few years back, the good thing is that a newer style bottom assembly will usually bolt on then you can use the plow and replace worn parts as necessary. I have been researching plows for quite some time (everybody has some weird thing I guess) and would be glad to share what I have found just let me know. Bob [email protected]

583 is on the top of what part ?

The 2 bottom, JD trip plows that I am familiar with have cast beams or have a frame that is made up out of rectangular steel. In either case, your JD dealer can get most of the parts for you. You might have to take the plowshares with you to be sure that you get the right ones. If you want the original style shares, they are about $100 each. The throw-aways are cheap. I'm not sure if you can still get the original landsides, but the more universal fit ones work fine.
