Got my corn ground disked, man was that fun!! Was able to finish 85 acres in 1 day-and I didn't start until noon. The 4630 I have had for 2 years finally got tested and could not have worked better. She ran for 10 hours and to my pleasant surprise used just over 1/2 tank of fuel-and almost no oil.

I know that 85 acres is small potatoes to most farmers but that was a lot to me-and one of the most fulfilling and fun days in my life.

Is there anything prettier than a freshly tilled field?

I will attempt to post a link to the pictures below.

Paul

Hi Paul,

Say, you're yankin' on my ol' heartstrings there; she really looks good.

I understand your running the rig shallow on the open bean ground, but notice you have quite a lot of residue in the old corn stalks.

Do you have to use a no-till planter in those stalks in the one picture, or can you get a surface rig thru 'em? When do you normally plant?

I really like the look of that disc you have. You're livin' my dream, ya know.

Allan

Living my own dream too-believe me. Been waiting and saving since 1990.

All my ground going to beans is going to be no-tilled right into stalks. Would have no-tilled this but had a lot of ruts from running row cleaners a bit deep last year and some soft ground had ruts from combine last year.

So had to disk it. Darn. :)

Aw Ha!,

Now I see what you're up to and that makes perfect sense to me.

Good for you! Enjoy that smell of the turned dirt, 'cause you've earned it!

Allan

Those photographs will cause the no-till advocates to have a heart attack! I do have a question, did you bury that much residue with a single pass?

I was running disk pretty shallow-about 3 inches-but was running about 9mph-was trying to throw a lot to level things out without making it so rough I had to work it again.

I am a no-till advocate too-but there was no way I could put corn in as rough as it was.

If things go well it should be a long time before that ground is ever worked again, but I wanted to get it level to start with.
