What opinions do you fella's have of this machine. It is a 9'. A local dealer has one that looks fairly strait for $650. How does it compare to the new holland and IH.

I can't comment on other brands, my 1209 is the only mower conditioner I have run. I picked mine up at a sale for $700. The guys I was with told me I got the "deal of the day"....I have been happy with it's operation.

Better grab it. I paid $1500 for mine and the seller wouldn"t haggle a bit. Sickle bar is pretty new and the hoses could use replacing, but it works as is.

I sold a NH 489 Haybine to get it if that sets things in perspective.

Well I can tell ya that mine is a good machine. I drop'd 2 grand on it and have no regrets. Trouble free and mows all day long. Any NH thats not rusted out will bring 4-5000 here (have seen some pretty bad rust buckets pull close to 3000)

Things you do want to check for though.

Tounge - they have been know to crack around the pin that holds the tounge to the mower. Clean it off and look up under there good (top and bottom) for cracking around the weld.

Gear box - Two items here. 1) slop, grab the slip clutch and give it a good back and forth. If you can turn it much (1/4" or more) before the gears meash up and stop ya look out, could be gettin close to rebuild time. 2) Seals. Look around the input shaft, yokes, and pully for signs of freah oil loss. Oil level must be maintained or it will have a very short life.

Wobble box - Seals. Same as before Oil level is crictal and fresh oil loss will seriously affect life span. Heat and or cracks. Paint bubbled off or cracking indicates extrem wear and heat, most likely low oil level.

Rolls - Of course peeling. But also see if they are timed correctly. If dry running (hooked up and running not mowing) you hear loud banging or thunping coming from the rolls, it could be a sign of poor timing or worn gears in the gear box.
Yoke alingment is also important. You can get some really bad vibs if not installed properly. There should be a sticker inside the cover showing proper alingment. If not - just remember however the yoke is on the gearbox is how it should be on the roller, with the two in the center 90 deg off from them (GB[--]RL, "NOT" GB[-[-RL)

Lastly and most inportant - where is it. If you don't what it I may be interested, in it just for extra parts That wobble box is a pretty pricey item..... ...not to mention rolls in decent shape are worth the asking price.

If the rollers are good, and sheet metal isn"t rusted out, $650 is a good deal. I"ve run a New Holland 477 (7 foot machine) and JD 1209, and I didn"t prefer one over the other, they both did good jobs.
