I am looking at buying a two bottom plow and have seen a JD two bottom trip plow advertised locally. Not knowing too much about trip plows would this work okay to pull behind a IH 300U with a fast hitch? It's sole purpose will be to plow a new garden which is brome grass now. Any insight will be appreciated. Thanks.

To properly pull any plow you need to adjust the hitch to the line of draft. On any plow the line of draft is 1/4 of the bottom width to the left of center of the total cutting width of the plow. The hitch needs to be set at that position, and attached to the center of the tractor. The furrow wheel of the tractor needs to be set so it is lined up with the plow furrow of the previous round.

Should work ok but as the other guy says you will have to figure out which hole in the draw bar to use. A 300U should be able to pull a 2 bottom 16 with no problemand just play with a 14 or 12. Sure wish I could sell a couple of trip plows I have I have 3 and only have need for one.

Does your 300 have a drawbar or just the fast hitch ? If you have a drawbar, it should work out okay, but you might have to hitch the plow off center (to the right) to keep the furrow wheel lined up in the furrow.
