Jeff - I have been shopping trailer plows for the last few months. I need a plow for my tractor that isn't three point. The value is going to depend on what it is and where it is. Then you have to consider condition. If you are in Minnesota like the guy below suggests, there seems to be a lot of old equipment coming from that area and it probably won't bring as much as they do elsewhere. I saw a JD 4-14 which had a lot of rust but was solid and useable sell for $130 at auction last summer. A JD 4-14 in excellent condition sell for $300 at auction last fall. A JD #55 3-14 in pretty decent shape, enough paint to read the ID, sell for $250 at auction last weekend. None of the above had cylinders. The first one had no significant paint left and the tires were bad. All located in Michigan. All on rubber. #55 had spoked wheels. They tell me the more bottoms, the lower the price and this sometimes seems to be the case...but not a reliable way to value it.
Looking around at sales in your area is more reliable. Hope this helps....Dave

By wheel driven do you mean that it is a ground-lift mechanism to raise the plow at the end of the furrow? Any model number, or numbers on the frame? Steel or rubber wheels? With your last name being Mans, do you live around Hinckley, MN., and was your grandfather written up in Reader's Digest many years ago after a logging accident?

Hah, yes I am! I am his only grandson and he was involved in a logging accident that crippled him from the waist down, I wrote an article about him in the ytmag stories section, small world!

I did read your story on here a while ago, and it reminded me of the one in RD many years before. I started farming from scratch in '72, and it was not easy. Many times I re-read that RD story, just to get inspired enough to stick with it. Please say thanks to your Grampa for me!
