I have recently come across a McCormick Deering #7 horsedrawn sicklebar mower. I am trying to find out possibly what year it was made in. I would like to restore it to working order. I have been able to get some of the parts loosened up on it, but still am unable to get into the gear box. If anyone has any info, please let me know.

I really appreciate your help. That gives me an idea of what years to look for. Thanks again.

I'll take a guess that it was manufactured from 1920 to 1930. Wendell's book shows it, I'll check tonite if I remember. I have heard that the #9's had a casting date on the bottom of the gearbox but not sure if this holds true for the #7's. There are Amish shops which rebuild these critters so lots of parts available.
cheers,
