Round bale wrapper?

I am thinking about buying a bale wrapper to cover my hay. I can't afford to put up another shed to hold the amount of hay I need to store right now. What are your opinions on these things? I would like to buy a used one for not to many $$$'s. Am I thinking right or what? Do they work worth a hoot? Or are they a lot of trouble? How much is the plastic wrap? How much per bale does it cost to wrap these things?

I use an inline wrapper. Runs about $14,000 new, not many used ones yet. THe ones I have used (Tube line, Anderson, John Deere) are all SUPER!.

Limit on wrapping is cycle time, I added a skid loader for that very reason. Very little maint to them, only hard thing about wrapping is finishing the last of a tube, have to wrestle some real 'Man Sized' poles.

Plastic cost for inline, in large quantities runs me about $2.00 per bale for silage, about 1.30 on dry hay. With less than a semi load of plastic the cost is about double that.

This guy is about an hour from me. This system looks very simple. I am only baling about 400-600 bales a year and I think this would be the most economical way to protect it. It looks like a little less than $2 a bale for what I do. It looks like it is more manula work than the fancy systems but I can't afford to spend $15k or I'd just build another barn. But $3000 and a little manual work I can handle!

I would just put up a pole barn. 2300.00 for the wrapper plus 2.00 a bale at say 500 bales a year is 1000.00. Do this a several years and your barn is paid for. 2.00 a bale is cheap but what do you have when you are done? Good bales but alot of plastic to get rid of. Put the money in a pole barn.

we wrap about 1500 bales a year and love it. If you get a bale wrapper you will love the feed that comes out of it.

Good point, but the problem is the money right now. A barn to hold all the hay I bale will be $15-$20000. It'd take a long time to recoup the cost. I will build another barn, but probably not for 3-5 years. So this thing is a good way to go for now, I think?
