I am going tomorrow to look at several used JD small sq. balers. Can anyone tell me the difference between 327,336,338 etc.? The last new one I bought was a 224T and haven't kept up on the newer ones. Thanx for your help and opinions.

Hi, JD 346,347,and 348 have the faster stroke up in the ninties with a wide pick up with extra rows of teeth. The 337 and 338 have the slower stroke(same as 336,327,and 328) in the sixties with the big pick up that the x4x series have. The 336 has a narrow pickup and the 327 and 328 have a wider pick up , but not all the rows of teeth the x4x series have. I have a 337. Bill

Well I'll take a stab at it for you. We've been running the newer ones for some time now. The last number basically indicates the age. 6 being older than 7, which is older than the 8 series. The middle number indicates more or less the capacity. A 2 being a lighter duty baler the 3 is a middle capacity baler and the 4 is their "commercial" or heaviest duty baler. So all balers currently being manufactured are the 328, 338, and 348 with the 348 being top of the line and the 328 being the lowest capacity baler with the 338 falling inbetween. Hope this helps.
David

What are you doing with the 224T? I have one of these and wouldn't mind picking up a second for backup or parts.
