I'm putiing together a 3-point tool bar set up for some john deere 71 flex planters I have. I have room for three. I was wondering is there any reason not to? Just never hear of odd numbers and was looking for advice. I am looking at betwenn 30-36 rows. Thanks.

Deere made 3 row planters and cultivators in the early 30s for there GP tractor. Worked all right, but like the man said, Farmers couldnt get used to it, they either wanted 2 or 4 row back then

The hard part is in _not_ driving on the row as you plant (you want to plant into soft ground, not wheel tracks esp with corn), and how do you cultivate? It is best to straddle 2 rows, thus you need an even number of rows.

I do have a 15 row bean planter, but that happens when you go to 15" rows & add a row between exsisting rows - you straddle 3 rows then.

My Amish neighbors all use three row planters. Deere 7000 no till on steel wheels. Works great with four horses. I've borrowed it and used it with my 530. Worked good but seemed a little odd.
