Every dealer may sell some hay equipment but many of the hay producers gravitate to dealerships that tailor to hay producers. Hay season is upon us and we see numerous questions on ytmag.com. Just where does the ytmag community go for their local answers and solutions to their hay equipment needs? Maybe posting some of your dealerships will help some of the new folks coming into our community.

I get twine for both balers at the local Runnings (fleet & farm type regional chain). Bearings, pto crosses I get at the local Napa store. New shafts for the 605F I get for 1/2 price at the local welding shop.

I did get a manual 3 years ago from the 'local' Vermeer dealer before I found out I coulda got one free from the company - dealer is about 50 miles away. I should stop there again & get a twine knife, if I don't make my own. I also got a spring from my local NH dealer for the 270 baler about 7-8 years ago.

Not sure who would qualify as the headquarters - probably mostly my shop. :)

I've got an accumulation of auction-bought equipment. Parts come from everywhere. Only new piece of equipment in the barn is the Vermeer baler from Abbott Farm Supply in Charlestown Indiana. A lot of my parts come through Parrish Tractor in Louisville, or Davis Impliment in New Washington Indiana.

Big 3 Tractor Bloomfield KY for OEM NH parts
Cocanougher Farm Equip, Harrodsburg Ky NI OEM and after market (TISCO etc)
Jacobi Sales ShelbyvilleCase and IH
Corns Metal, Lawrenceburg, KY hydraulics, misc bearings and steel
For JD, I have 3 dealers equal distance, call all 3 and go where the parts are. Central Equip Lex, Greenline Danville, Shelby Supply Shelbyville
Cat, Whayne Supply, Lex

New equipment is rare for me, usually Cocanougher for BH and NI stuff as he is closest and has the best price. NH usually Big 3, JD usually Shelby Supply. Same with used stuff, normally auctions.

Howdy David!

Got question... Have you ever dealt with, or even heard of a Deere dealer in MidWay Kentucky (The Farm Store...???)

I have a 2640 in my shop right now that was apparently bought there. Never heard of 'em...

Thanks in advance,
John

Hi John,

I sure have!! Havetn heard that name in a while. In the mid 80's J&K in Versailles went under. The owners kept their franchise and relocated to a farm supply store in Midway. Few parts stocked or equipment on the lot, but would order what you needed. They've gone out too. Seems like they opened in 89 or 90 (when I was student teaching here) and went out before 94 (when I came here to teach).

Darn it Kyhayman, I didn't know you were a school marm, what's a teacher doing getting his hands chewed up on hay stubble? I did my 31 years, retired at 53 and worked in my friend's garage for 3 years, now just play with my cats and cattle, enjoy cutting and raking, don't mind baling, don't mind feeding the elevator...hate the mow with a passion, don't like drawing manure..however it all comes as one package. Anyway sounds like you got about 14 in and another 20 or so to go.I taught elementary for a while and then High School, miss the kids but not the political BS that government and school boards always invent...Farmalls, cats , cattle, cottage, grandchildren...and haying! it doesn't get much better...Mike in Exeter Ontario

Sure am :-). You are right on the 14 (11 teaching, 3.5 Extension), but 6-8 to go and go I plan :-). We have 27 year retirement with early buy in at 22. Get to sum military and other gvt service into it. I started teaching horticulture and animal science, now ag shop and farm management. I'd love to have some hay scratches right now, spent all morning demonstrating how to take engines apart and put them back together on IH gas and diesel. Boss insists that we wear dress shirts and ties, so I've washed my hands about 10 dozen times, feels like the hide is chapped clean off along with the grease. I'm in the off farm employment world same as a lot of folks, health insurance.

Elementary huh? I subbed when I was in college, loved the little kids. I love my seniors too, just a shame they have to go through the middle.

Well, this 2640 must have sold USED on their lot then. It's got their dealer stickers on each side. Bought it cheap. Hi/lo wouldn't shift right. Found out it's about 5 gallons low on oil.... Seems to shift OK now. Haven't had it under a load yet though. Needs 4 tires and a paint job, but seems to be a fair ol' tractor. I have a thing for the mid-sized 40 series Deeres about like your thing for those blue 7000 series Fords...

Oh the sold a lot of new ones too, just ordered them in for people as sold. Actually was a really good system. Kept their overhead real low and kept a local JD dealer.

In my area it would have to be the local Case-IH dealer, he handles the M&W line of hay rakes, and the Kuhn line of disc mowers. He also has the Apache line of hay feeders and creep feeders. Pretty much covers all the bases.

My source is S&H NH in Lockwood & Springfield, MO. They carry a wide line of haying equipment and one of the principals puts up around 100,000 bales a year near the dealership. He always invites you to look at what he is doing if you have questions. They also carry a large inventory of parts for NH equipment.
I also use a salvage yard for some items. It is Hilltop Tractor Salvage in Lamar, MO which has almost anything you can ask about. They also ship anywhere. These are all good folks..... ..

My source for hay equipment is an overgrown fence row or musty seldom opened barn. My source for answers is the manuals I buy afterward and this forum...my favorite of all the forums. Not what you wanted, but somebody had to represent the rusty, dusty, and musty group.

My "Hay Headquarter" is Haley Implement in Carroll, Iowa. They are the closest NH dealer and do quite a bit of Hay business. I have them do maintenance on my hay equipment and any "emergency" calls, luckily I have only had one of those so far.

I buy my hay preservative else where and am contemplating dealing in twine for our area.

Jim
