We have a 4-row Allis Chalmers no-till corn planter. I think it"s a 600 series. We need some parts before we plant with it this year. My question is, will I have to buy parts from AGCO, or are there aftermarket parts available for AC planters. I think I need the following parts:

1. The no-till coulters have lost their spring. There is a rubber disc in them that looks like it can be replaced.

2. The bearings or bushings are worn out on all the closing wheels.

3. One of the disc openers is broke and several more are loose. Do you replace the whole thing when they start getting loose?

Thanks in advance!

I think the disc coulter arm with the rubber is the same as the coulter arm AC used on some moldboard plows. I don't think it is replaceable- isn't it molded into the two steel parts? I have no idea if that is still an available part- might need to look around junk yards, etc. The loose disc openers have worn bearings. The planter manual should indicate new size diameter and recommended replacement size. If they are not worn too much you can grind of the rivets holding the bearing retainer to the disc, and install a new bearing. If the openers are bolted onto the frame, it is likely that they used left and right hand threads, depending on side.

Shoup lists some parts for 50, 71-2-3-4-7-8-9, 100, & 385 units. many time parts cross to something else as well. It will help if you have a parts list. Shoup is on-line, but the paper catalog seems better. They are pretty good if you call& talk to them about your needs as well.

Simple bearings I can often get at a local NAPA or other supply place cheaper than at the dealer.

Many disc openers have simple ball bearings in them & can be replaced, but if the blade is worn down - might be better in the long run to repace the whole disk/bearing unit.
