I have a new chain to put on the baler to drive the forks that move the hay into the chamber. Do the sprockets have to be in any particular postition as long as the timing marks line up?

Marshall, it makes no difference where the sprockets are. As long as you time up the marks, you are good to go. Steve

There is a timing mark I must follow on my NH 270. Generally all these NH balers have similar requirements. But that's not a real answer for you..... I'll guess 95% yes you need to time it tho.

Probably be a good idea to cycle the baler by hand before you power it up.

Good Luck!

Cycle it through many times to make sure it stays in time...my neighbor rebuilt a JD 346 baler. The first time in the field the baler made about 5 bales then flew apart...come to find out, the chain that drove the feeder forks had 2 extra links in it (that is the way he bought it) and after many revolutions, the forks finally entered the bale chamber just before the plunger came aft.

Good Luck,

Tim A.
