I picked up a NH 273 baler at an auction this weekend that is in great condition other than the fact that there is some slop in the flywheel bushing. Not much, but enough that I want to fix it before haying season because with my luck it would give out before I was halfway through baling. I looked it over closely and it doesn"t seem like it will be a difficult repair. Has anyone ever replaced the flywheel busing in one of these balers and if so are there any tricks I need to know about before I tear into it?

Thanks

Clark

They all seem to have a bit of play. I replaced the bushings on clutch & fly wheel bores in our old NH278. Not much too it, I have a bushing cutter gizmo for my air chisel which makes short work of it.

Thanks for the help guys! I've got a cherry picker that I plan to support the flywheel with and I've got a hydraulic press to drive the old bushing out and the new one in so I figured it wouldn't be too much trouble, but I'm glad to know that I was right.

Thanks again!

Clark

Pushing it out with the press can be kinda tricky as the bushing will be thin. So you need the correct size shaft to push it out. With the bushing cutter punch you just cut the bushing through and pop it out. Either way will work but having a engine hoist takes all the heavy lifting out of the job!

I replaced the bush in our neighbours MF baler this summer. I supported the flywheel with the tractor loader and took it off and laid it down to work on it.

I also replaced the overrunning clutch bushing, overrunning disc and pawl springs at the same time.
