Whew. Should have the last of the 3 hay racks done today. Then its time to get the NH 68 in the shop. Busted the pick up chain on it the last time out. I thougt some thing was wrong with it all last summer. Seemed to make a wierd clicking sound and would act like it was catching on some thing. I could never seem to find the cause. Going to pull all the gaurds off and give it the twice over.

I had to wait till I got home. To hard to watch the red lights and type at the same time.

I have been thinking about this all winter. I dont think I could be more pleased with that JD14t. Cost just $150, just greased her up and shined the bill hooks and away we went. Perfect bales the 1st time every time.

My 68 worked ok. Its kind of unfair though. I dint figure out the problem I was having with breaking shear bolts until the last 3 rows I baled with it. I had the knotter timed per the manual exactly, but was still shearing off bolts about every 50 to 100 bales. Finnally figured out that the knotter chain had some streach in it from age.
I then advanced the timing ahead one link and she did the rest of the field with out a hick up.
I have a few issues to fix up on the pick up this winter and she should be good to go.

What I am going to do this year is this. The 14t is going to get taken up to my hay land that is 30 mi north of me. It will stay out there all summer. The Nh68 is going to stay here and do the hay thats closer to home. That way I wont be dragging balers all over the place.

I guess the better question would be. When I change to a thrower system what baler am I gona buy? Right now I am leaning to a JD 336 with a thrower. Will see.

Way to go, Kelly.

I finished my 18 footer this week and am done making racks...Well I thought I was. When I was looking at my new haybine I found a couple of nice running gears. I am going to price them tomorrow, it the price is right I will probably get another for a hay rack.

Jim

Clicking sound? Look to see if some twine has gotten up in the pick up teeth and is catching a tooth or two.

I only mean this in the nicest way but, do you...like...have a job? I'm lucky if I find enough time in a given year to do ONE hay rack.
Either you have a lot of time on your hands or are a human dynamo. I admire your ability to get these things done.

Dave: He'll learn someday when he discovers Kelly is an old man like his grand dad at 63. At least he did suggest I reminded him of his grand father, so I assume he felt old at 63. Kelly is quite easy to get back at, his honesty and hard work put him in that catergory. We just hope he has good strong genes, and is not a walking widow maker.

Good luck Kelly, I've always liked your style.

Yea I have a job. 5 days a week.

3 weekends + 2 nights a week for 3 or 4 hrs. gets you 3 racks done. 3rd one took about 1/3rd the time to do as the 1st one.
