Hi Guys, Last summer I purchased a DA disc mower conditioner. At the time I thought it was a good idea. It worked fine for a few acres then chewed up the main drive gears. I am in the process of rebuilding the gearbox and would appreciate some feedback. First has anyone else experienced this problem? What do you think caused it? Are there any parts sources for these machines other than AGCO?

If someone has been using one of these machines for years I would really like to know what size tractor yoou have used and what you have done to keep your machine going.

As always any feedback will be appreciated.

PZ made the Mower Conditioner you have. We have some new & used parts for those mowers. You still can get parts from a Vicon distributor.

Thank you for the parts sources. Do you have any experience using or maintaining one of these machines?

Three separate years we were the #1 PZ dealer in the USA. Our Parts manager, Todd, personally had one of these mowers. We sold hundreds of these PZ mowers.

I ran one for a few years, Had the same problem as you . We needed a second morgage to fix the gear train. I felt the machine was enginered poorly. I have used other brands after that and felt it was the worst. These machines were newer though and had more time for improvement. Seams like the problem me had was the bearings werent of the sealed type and if you cut hay that was wet you got water in the gear box and took out the bearings wich took out the gears.

Morning MD, I found water in the main gearbox as well. I am certain that it is rain water. What size tractor were you using? I suspect that a large part of the failure is due to insufficient lubrication. The previous owner had used gear oil in the gearbox instead of grease. The box will not hold oil. For the time being I am stuck with this machine. With that said I am glad that I held on to my haybine.

The gear box needs EP-0 grease. Realize that this mower was engineered in the early 1980's. Yes we would do some things differently now but as for the cutting ability they mow great.
