Only need to pick about 2-3 acres. Left the corn for food plots, need to run a picker thru to get the leftover corn that the deer and pheasants left. Would a wide row picker work if I only pick one row at a time? Also if and when I find a 325 pull picker..will I have trouble with it pulling sideways on hillsides and wet spots? What size gravity boxes should I look for? Thanks for your help. Joe

Why can you only do 1 row at a time? We have 32" rows and use a 38" 2 row head on our older Fox 3000 forage harvester. What would you be pulling it with? I don't have any experience w/ pickers but one of our neighbors pulled a 2-row with a small Ford. Donovan from Wisconsin

They won"t bother to come out for that little bit, I"m sure. That"s why I have my own little old Gleaner K2 and E combines for 100 acres of work a year. Just nobody to hire to do it.

I pick 25 acres or so a year, with a 6A, 300, & 324 all 2 rows. I run 200 bu wagons. No problems with sideways.

I think you'd be better off with a 323 one row. I have wet spots and sidehills and when we had a 2 row chopper if it got smeary you couln't stay on the row for the life of you. The 324 will work picking one row at a time. As far as gravity wagons a 2-3 hundred bushel should be adequate. I have a turnco and it holds almost 2 ton. Back to the picker this past fall it started raining on me before I got through and I had all I wanted to keep the one row picker on the row. I often thought about the 2 row but I think the one row will work best for me.

Just wondering where you're at. I am in NW Iowa and one row pickers are as scarce as hen's teeth here. Tried to buy a Wood bros last fall and got out bid at $200. This thing looked real rough but had been stored inside. Actually figured I could have used it in a couple of days but another guy wanted it worse than me.

Don't know where the original poster is from but he might be in the same spot.

I live in southcentral MN. The reason I don't ask for someone to combine my corn...The area farmers have moved their combines back in the corners of their sheds. I'm looking at planting corn in spots that I'll have troubles getting thru with 8 row heads. I was told this weekend that pull-type pickers sometimes don't track very well thru sidehills. I'll try the wide row till I find a narrow,,,,Thanks for everyone's opinion..... ...Joe

Hi Joe

I was really wondering where Farmertee was from. You cant be to terrible far from me. I am about 75 miles SW of Fairmont.

I was wondering where farmertee was getting the one row corn pickers would like one to play with to pick for local show.

I fully understand what you are up against trying to get someone to combine in the spring. I usually spend 2 to 4 days of shop time cleaning the combine with a vacuum cleaner after the season is done and wild horses couldn't make me get it out in the spring for 3 acres and have to do that all over again.

How close to New Ulm? :)

The NI 300 I got had the inside gathering chains removed. Previous owner was picking 30 inch corn with it, said that it worked better that way. I don't know, I've stayed on wide rows....

I have lots of hills, clay soil, it's not that hard tracking but maybe I'm just used to it, all I know! A good heavy tractor helps a lot.
