Txblu, the twine pump on baler only turns when bale reaches the size that you have it set.A mechanism trips at preset size and belt tightens to turn pump. The valve is beside pump.Lubricate the spool with your favorite pent.oil as they tend to get dry and stick. Also when 430/530 balers were new book said shut off pto to eject bale.JD changed their mind as leaving pto running helps clean hay build-up out.I haven't stopped my pto to eject in yrs.Tx Jim

on your twine pump be sure that you have 5 springs in the side that the pump is on...they range from about 1/2 inch to 1 1/8 or so...they all must be in place for this and 535 bale to work proper..you spend about 40 to 45 seconds for the bale to tie on 530..about half time on 535..have nice day may god bless

Hey Jim,

Appreciate you coming in to rescue me. Just bought this thing and got a JD user's manual. Am currently installing the control box in the cab. Soon I hope to hook up to it and "simulate" functions by hand to see if the indicators are doing their thing.

The operator's manual is not as clear as I'd like it.

1. I remember reading about (and seeing) a picture of "setting the bale diameter switch". Will look more closely at that and see what that amounts to. I don't want to run the full 6' roll as they just put needless wear and tear on the baler and subsequent haulers to the field. Will use the 5.5 setting when I get to looking at that. So what I'm hearing is that I'm working with a mechanical on/off switch. Surely solves the "where is the switch (electrical) that turns the tie on and off.

2. Glad you kicked in on whether or not to stop the PTO when ejecting. Being a johnny-come-lately, self educated in hayin, I have wondered which is right. Agree that it doesn't hurt to clean out the chamber after each bale and sure don't want to have to stop the tractor and get in there every time.

3. Guess when I get to looking at it, I will see the spool you are talking about.
----- ----- ----- --

Baler has been cared for. Belts are in good shape and the only parts I am replacing are the drive belt for the pump and on the other side, guide rollers for the chain (the pair of dogleg rollers) which the chain has cut thru due to wear.

If you don't mind, will lean on you in the future for problems. Am looking forward to some great bales as the 530 was the baler of choice around here for lots of years (still is but not the newest).

Thanks again,

Mark

I just bought a 530 also so by no means am an expert.
According to page 35 in my manual bale size is set by loosening a knob and moving in a slot located above pump.
Also tie can be auto with monitor or manual with twine rope.

Forgot to add that tie is electrical. Pulling rope for manual tie just moves electrical switch.

OK I think I get it.
One Question. Is electrical switch just to tell monitor that bale is ready to tie and when rope is pulled to tie a partial bale does the switch come into play at all?
Thanks

Monitor in reply to IA Steve, 02-28-2005 04:41:49
Steve, the lights on monitor JUST show what's happening similiar to idoit lights on instrument panel on older vehichles(before computers)but the baling is all controlled mechanically. As previously posted you can bale with a 530 without turning monitor on but it's alot easier if micro-switches work. Also only pull twine rope if wanting to tie small bale or twine did not wrap otherwise let baler tie automatically!!!!! !!Does your baler have the new style belt lacings?Tx Jim

Thanks
I plan on using monitor to let bale autotie, was just trying to figure out how things worked. I think I finally see it. It still appears the only way to tie last bale in field if smaller than preset size is manually. The belts have been replaced at some point and the fasteners are plate type with rivets. Don't really know if this is new style or not. We bought baler on auction. It appears to be in good overall shape but needs some minor repair. Thanks alot for the help because when it comes to round balers I'm a rookie.

Riveted are called Alligator clips and are much better than the wires. Just bought some new belts for another baler and had the choice. Alligator was an $18 per belt surcharge on a 5" belt..... felt it was worth it.

Ha, but now I have a 530 and the other is for sale and so maybe the extra cost wasn't worth it after all as a buyer won't pay for it.

Something like that or that it has tied and is ready for you to lift the gate and dump. I'm in the house, it's 6 am and the manual and monitor are out in the shop. I think it is the latter.....bale is tied and ready to dump. Ask Jim.
