My Hesston 5580 (5x6 bales) has a reversable 12v motor and a slip clutch. The motor moves an arm connected to a tie arm on each side. The arms are driven past center where the hay snags the twine dangling out of the tie tubes and once twine starts coming out of the box, you start pumping the motor to move over about 2" per rev of the bale. When finishing, the arms are at the bale's edge, nearly stored. You make 3 or 4 wraps there and then drive the arms to the limit where 2 sharp blades cut off the twine and you are ready to shut off the pto and dump. I use a spring loaded DPDT switch and depress the switch when I want something and release it when I'm through. If you depress the switch in the opposite (spring loaded) position, the switch is wired to reverse the polarity of the 12v power and the motor runs in the opposite direction. Just bought a JD530 which uses what looks likd a power steering pump assy off a car to do the same function. I haven't explored this as yet as I am just not connecting the monitor box to the tractor but it looks like the PTO drives this pump. There are 12v electric sensors for baler functions. The JD rig is setup to be automatic I guess as I haven't found an engage/disengage switch in the factory wiring and the manual shows the power connected via a ckt breaker directly to the 12v hot strip in the tractor's power distribution box. Guess what Scotty. In going through this I just figured out how this JD thing works. When you plug in the JD baler to the tractor, the monitors are active. When you are ready to bale you start the PTO. That starts the hyd pump to pumping which activates the tie arm. The monitors tell you what to do with the tractor and the PTO. When the bale is full (light comes on), you merely stop the PTO (which is the on-off switch I was looking for) and execute the ejection. Ok Fine. Thank you! Mark
