Hey guys I did get into my web site and up loaded the Hay Rack build. When you get to my site just look in the left pane for the link to hay rack build. Might have to scroll down to find it. Link pane is getting kind of full of stuff.

Always envy you guys in the hard wood country. Up here in the NW if we made a wagon bed out of Oak we'd have to put it in the house for a piece of furniture.

Thats some good looking wood you got there. Nice looking rack. Don't know if I'd want to use it though. I hate to pee on someones parade here, cause you have put some time and effort into it....but I agree about the angle brackets.

Eventually you'll use these for something else, of even large square or rounds, you'll set one of something on one side, and I'd be afraid of popping those brackets right off the beams on the other side, or worse yet going down the road, hitting a rough stretch of road and your load will bounce and pop them off.

Just an idea for you, when you build your backs, slant them back a little, maybe 8 inches off center. This way you bales will have a nice lean to them and you won't have to worry about the bales on the front of the wagon leaving the seen. Hound

GOOD WEB SITE ON HAY RACK.
STILL UNDICIDED WHICH WAY TO BUILD MINE?
WHEN YOU BUILD OUT OF TREATED BOTTOM SILLS DO YOU PUT 2 OR 3 2BY10 TOGETHER AND SHOULD YOU BOLT AND PLATE TOGETHER?

I used 2 2x8x16 on each side for the treated one.
I dont over load mine. 100 bales max for me as i drag mine down the roads alot.
8 inch wide should be enough. do 3 wide if you like. Laminated 2 or 3 wide makes for a strong stringer. I just screwed mine together with deck screws. I dont see as bolting and plating would make much difference. If they are wedged in there good they arnt going anywere.

Kelly

Nice page and good 'How-to'! Maybe I missed it somewhere, but are you planning on sealing the oak?

Thats a good question. This is very fresh oak. I was thinking of putting waste oil on it. SHould that be done right away or does it need to cure a bit 1st?
