You seem to be the moldboard guru. I was wondering if anyone ever mastered the art of precisely backing a semi mount plow. I have an oliver 4-16's with steereable rear wheel and a 706 D. tricycle. I plow all my corn ground, about 250 acres. Would like to keep plow in machine shed if could back it in.

I've always backed my semimounts in, usually in a spot not much wider than the plows. If they have a hillside (sliding) hitch that helps, too. As someone posted, watch the back wheel and use it to steer the plow where you want. That's the key to the whole thing. And it's a whole lot easier if you get the tractor and plows straight before you start to back in.

Miss Grundy: Sure you can master this. It is a bit unlike most implements you've backed. Been awhile since I've done this but I used to drive on 40' lowbed trailer and back off, with 656 and 5x16 semi mount. I have backed it in shed, but that was harder than the lowbed. I had a 3 point adapter for my skid steer quick tach bucket, plus a remote valve. That was the machine for putting equipment away for winter. Skid steer will make quick work of the semi mount plow.

Hugh, we used to store the John Deere 5-16s semi-mount in the shed all the time. We learned that the trick to backing one of these rigs is to watch the tail wheel on the plow, adjust the tractor as needed so that you are steering the plow with the tail wheel. I don't mean to make it sound easy, because it isn't. But once you have mastered it, as you have, you can pretty much put that plow anywhere you want it.
