Need round baler suggestions???

Ive been thinking about buying a cheaper used round baler my back cant take throwing squares around anymore....I really like the Vermeer balers....And from what i see they seem to be the baler of choice around here....Ive seen vermeers around here from anywhere from $750 and up but i dont know the differnce between the models....I see C,F and about every other letter...I want something that is cheap not to bad to work on and doesnt take much HP....I want to use my 3020 Gas to run one....I think that should be enough power...I will bale mostly grass hay and maybe a little bit of alfalfa... Mostly grass hay 99 percent of the time Thanks for suggestions

New Holland Chain Baler. Cheap, will bale anything, lots of them around yet.

As others have said look for an F,G, or H series baler. These all are open throut will work behind a 3020. Depending on how much you a willing to spend look at the super I series. Will all Vermeer balers the number in front is the bale size. For examples a 504G would be 5' in diameter 4' wide and the G series. A 605F would be 6' in diameter and 5' wide in the F series. All of these are max bale size. You do not have to make a full bale with Vermeer balers.
I would check www.vermeerag.com to find a list of dealers close to you. They probably have some trades coming with folks trading up before spring.

I have a Vermeer for 5 years, 503I. Nice baler. I like it, you can watch the bale get started and form. Some balers you can't, it is just guess work. Parts are great and available and the technical people are great. Look back a few pages for last week and you will see some talk about a Vermeer and what other had to say. You can't go wrong.

Vermeer F, G, and H balers are some of the best that you can get for the money. We have custom baled with our MF 1560 (same as a 605G) since it was bought new in 84, and have had little down time.

If you go with the Vermeers stay away from the C and D series. They had a "closed" throat that made starting bales difficult. The F, G and H series had an open throat and started bales MUCH better. They are simple to work on and many parts are standard machine parts available from many sources. In their day they were very dependable.

You will also need to think about other changes to your hay handling and feeding equipment and methods. A 3 point bale fork is cheap and safe way to move single bales.

One last thing that I had driven home to me last year. Carry a water based fire extinguisher at all times.

Vermeer 605 G can be purchased from $1,000-3,500. and will fit into HP requirements.
