I bought a 256 at auction to upgrade over my NH 56 rake. However I noticed when I back up with the 256 the teeth want to also go backwards. I was wondering if this is normal on this model or not. I never had that problem with the 56 it just clicked until you started to drive forward. Any ideas or help would be appreciated.

It should click when backing up. I would be interested in seeing if someone accidently installed one of the dogs in the wrong direction. This is possible to do. Steve

probably just stuck, reminds me of a pickup a man traded to the dealer, he said "it is wore out, except for the grease zerks, they've never been used."

I have two 256s and they both run neutral when backing up (they click). Something wrong somewhere.

Jack up each wheel and see if the overrunning clutch in each hub is functioning. It should work the same as your 56.

No clicking when backing? sounds like bad dogs in hubs.
Caveat - I do not know this rake, this is just general knowledge about ground drive equipment
